This program explores the journey the winds take from their birth at the Equator to the North Pole, where we witness the space rainbow better known as aurora borealis. We tell of the devastating events that were unleashed by Hurricane Andrew in the USA and recall how the jet stream was put to deadly use by the Japanese in World War II. We see how the wind can turn from the cooling breeze of a summer day to a devastating tornado, and how a wind from space can literally flatten the planet. [A BBC/TLC Production]

Kakani Young of Caltech's Engineering and Applied Science Division will introduce the film and guide the post-screening discussion.

This event is made possible through Caltech's participation in the CineMuse Network.

Recommended for grades 3 through 12.
