A novelist, publisher, and book designer, Danielle Dutton is the author, most recently, of Margaret the First (2016), a reimagining of the controversial seventeenth-century writer and natural philosopher, Margaret Cavendish. Praised as "thrilling" (Los Angeles Review of Books) and "nimble" (New York Times Book Review), it paints a subtle portrait of female ambition and inquiry at the beginning of the Scientific Revolution. Dutton is also the author of the prose collection Attempts at Life and the novel Sprawl, a finalist for the Believer Book Award. Her short fiction has appeared in Harper's, BOMB, Fence, and other publications. She is the founder of the publishing house Dorothy and teaches on the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis.
