The Juilliard Quartet's 18th Coleman series engagement is a tribute to both its mastery and its longevity. Only the London String Quartet and founder Alice Coleman performed on the series more often. Of a recent performance Elaine Schmidt wrote in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the players "immerse themselves so completely in the music at hand that hearing them play Friday evening was more akin to hearing three different ensembles than just one ensemble playing three different pieces . The men of the quartet play with the sort of ensemble ease and familiarity that borders on mind reading. They articulate together, phrase together, and breathe together. Phrases pass from player to player like ripples across still water."

Program:

  • Mozart: Quartet in D Major, K. 575 "Prussian"
  • Carter: Quartet No. 3
  • Dvořák: Quartet No. 11 in C Major, Op. 61 *

* First Coleman Chamber Concert performance
