Jupiter String Quartet with James Dunham, viola
- Public Event
This quartet chose its name for reasons Einstein would have appreciated: the prominence of Jupiter in the night sky, and Jupiter's astrological symbol, which resembles a "4".
The Jupiter String Quartet has indeed achieved prominence. It received Chamber Music America's Cleveland Quartet Award in 2007, earned an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2008, and earlier, won first prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition and the grand prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. "They played as if they were on fire, with passion and energy galore… crisp articulations and exciting phrasing" (Kansas City Star).
