Guestimation of large angle scattering
Hiroaki Yamamoto, LIGO, Caltech,

Please Note: This seminar was originally scheduled for November 29 in West Bridge 351.

There are not enough data nor knowledge to calculate the large angle scattering off by mirrors in LIGO interferometers. This makes it difficult to understand the cause of the loss in the arm and to predict various noises induced by stray lights. This talk summarizes data and formulations which will be helpful to guestimate the large angle scattering. Various mystic terminologies, phasemaps, PSD, BRDF, golden rules and cavity loss, and their relations will be clarified.

We plan to broadcast these talks using TeamSpeak. Use a sub-channel of LIGO Lab called "LIGO Seminar," which is not password protected.

NOTE: These and all other scheduled LIGO seminars are listed on the LIGO Laboratory seminar calendar for convenient reference.
