LIGO Seminar
For detecting compact coalescing binary (CBC) signals it is of vital
importance to characterise and identify non-Gaussian, non-stationary noise
in advanced detectors. Two important classes of transients that contribute
to the noise are considered, namely, the sine-Gaussian glitch and the
chirping sine-Gaussian glitch. These glitches have an adverse effect on the
senstivity of CBC searches. We study the response of the bank of CBC
inspiral templates to these two families of glitches which we characterise
by few parameters such as the central frequency, quality factor etc.
Specifically, we study the signal-to-noise (SNR) and the time-lag
distributions of the triggers as a funtion of these parameters. We propose
that the distinctions between the distributions of glitches as compared with
the CBC signals may be utilised to develop useful discriminators.
