Lisa Haley and the Zydekats
- Public Event
Though our series hosted Dewey Balfa, a huge name in Cajun music, back in 1987, we have not really ventured into Zydeco music until now. The CD King Cake by Lisa Haley was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008, and her newest recording, Joy Ride, has gotten lots of attention. The Los Angeles Times described her performances as "joyful, exotic... a la the bluesy moans of Janis Joplin..." They have been called the most joyful Americana/Cajun/Zydeco act on tour today.
This fiddler, dancer, vocalist, and songwriter serves up heart-moving Louisiana Bayou rhythms, traditional stylings and original songs speaking to all ages. Lisa has toured the world and worked with the likes of Brian Setzer, John Hiatt, Queen Ida, and many more. The Zydekats have been together for 19 years and include the fantastic Gigi "Gee" Rabe, accordion and vocals, Andy Anders, bass and vocals, and Chris Ross, drums and vocals. Gary Hayman, of the Zyde-Zine, wrote that they "...left the audience with their mouths open... This group brings the stage to life!"
The show will definitely get you moving!
