Dabney Hall 110 (Treasure Room)
Image Machines/Computation's Womb
Sarah Pourciau,
Assistant Professor of German,
Duke University,
Abstract: The presentation introduces Pourciau's current book project, which seeks to reconstruct the prehistory of the digital as a response to the challenge of mapping, computing, ordering, analyzing, or otherwise representing the continuum, and with it the feminine. The talk will focus on recent attempts, in popular culture and philosophy, to reimagine the feminine-coded role of imagination. It will ask about the conceptual work that such figures of female mediation are still doing for us, and about how we might start trying to redistribute this labor.
