Brian Brophy, Director

In 1960 young chess phenom Bobby Fischer travels to Buenos Aires to compete in a tournament. A fellow chess player introduces Bobby to an Argentinian woman, thrusting the genius into a new realm where the body triumphs over the mind. Fischer must battle for control or face the destruction of his life's ambition.

After achieving the title of World Champion in 1972, Fischer disappears from professional chess. From rich and admired to homeless in Pasadena and beaten in the local jail, he succumbs to paranoia. He finds salvation in a Hungarian girl, the only one who can lure him into the spotlight.

Playwright Lolly Ward traces the life of the world champion chess master in this fully-staged world premiere running for two weekends, Friday through Sunday, November 16 through 18 and Friday through Sunday, November 30 through December 2.

Performances will take place at The Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, at 145 North Raymond Avenue.
