MLK Service Project - A Day On, Not Off
7:30AM - 12:00PM | Pasadena High School | 2925 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107
On the Saturday before the MLK Day of Service, it is our tradition to provide a local school with volunteers to help beautify the campus. We will plant flowers, clean up, and do several maintenance tasks. Afterwards, we will enjoy a nice lunch and entertainment from the students from the school. This is a cooperation between Martin Luther King Community Coalition and Pasadena Unified School District and the school principal. Email questions to [email protected], or https://goo.gl/forms/AXoaEOJOTXiPZ8xL2 to RSVP.
MLK Service Project - Kids Reading to Succeed
8:30AM - 11:00AM | 500 E. Villa Street & Jackson Elementary
Kids Reading to Succeed (KRS) works with the youth of Pasadena to encourage a love of reading and to improve literacy skills. The first hour (9:00 to 10:00) focuses on individualized and targeted reading, in which a volunteer is paired with a student who is encouraged to read aloud from a book chosen from the KRS library. Volunteers consistently ask questions of the students to gauge reading comprehension. The second hour of our program (10:00 to 11:00) is the interactive and fun presentation based on the monthly theme. For more info and to RSVP, contact Kavya Sreedhar at [email protected].
