A Look at University Endowment Investment Practices
Do you know how the $1,000,000 that supports YOUR education is invested?

Please Note: This event will take place in Sturdivant Lecture Hall, room 153 in the Noyes Laboratory of Chemistry, building #72 on the campus map. Due to adjacent construction, please enter the building through the south entrance.

Caltech holds a $2,000,000,000 endowment in private equity, but do these companies use policies in line with Caltech's mission statement to "expand human knowledge and benefit society?"

Morgan Simon will discuss the Socially Responsible Investment movement and how it has been used by universities to promote social good. Come learn more about investment and stay for coffee and snacks after the talk.

Morgan Simon is the co-founder and executive director of the Responsible Endowments Coalition, a non-profit organization that supports over 70 colleges and universities managing $150 billion across the country in implementing responsible investment policies. As an undergraduate at Swarthmore College, Ms. Simon led the filing of the first student-led shareholder resolution since the apartheid era, successfully convincing Lockheed Martin to add sexual orientation to its non-discrimination policy and give domestic partner benefits. She has led trainings on responsible investment for hundreds of students across the country, in addition to working regularly with administrators and trustees. She was a Social Venture Network Innovation Award winner in 2007, and her work has been followed by national media such as the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.

The Social Activism Speaker Series is a Caltech student organization that focuses attention on current social and political issues by inviting prominent activists to share their experiences and perspectives with the Caltech community and the public. This student-run series is coordinated with the help of the Caltech Y, and is made possible by contributions from the Moore Hufstedler Fund, Student Affairs, Campus Life, the Alumni Association, the Graduate Student Council, and the Caltech Y, as well as staff support from Public Events.

The Graduate Student Council (GSC), incorporated on April 19, 1985, is the student government for Caltech graduate students. Its mission is "to work to maximize the quality of life for the graduate student community at Caltech." The GSC interacts with the institute's administrative bodies to put forward the interests of the student body.

NetImpact at Caltech is the campus chapter of Net Impact, a global network of leaders who are changing the world through business.
