Electronic music has developed into many sub-genres since its arrival on the scene almost 40 years ago. Home computers, digital music programs, and the internet have placed millions of new composers on par with long time and well known artists.

Inside the Synthesizer looks at this fascinating new field, showing how music is created and how the use of standard instruments, as well as vocals, adds to its continuing evolution. Other concepts, such as computer-generated music videos, will be discussed.

Pat Murphy, radio host of Alien Air Music for over 20 years, moderates a discussion and demonstration of the technology and innovation that is fueling the current electronic music explosion around the world. Other participants include:

  • Henry Hsiao - Destined to become a neuroscientist like his father, Hsiao's creative side led him to pursue music. He now teaches electronic music courses at the SAE Institute.
  • Laura Escudé - The West Coast Product Specialist for Ableton music software, she has composed for film, television, and theater.
