Angular Momentum Radiation in Field Theory and Gravity
Aneesh Manohar,
UC San Diego,
I will discuss angular momentum in classical electrodynamics and the resolution of Feynman's paradox. The naive notion from classical particle mechanics that angular momentum should be given as the sum of photon orbital and spin angular momentum is not valid. I will then discuss the concept of radiated angular momentum for gravitational systems, and a recent computation of radiated angular momentum in gravitational binary systems to all orders in v/c, and of the dissipative gravitational radiation-reaction force.
