The Physics and Material Science of Modern Particle Accelerators
Anna Grassellino, Deputy Division Head, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL),
I will review the forefront accelerator technology R&D at Fermilab and other National Laboratories. I will focus on leaps in superconducting RF technology (SRF) that enable highly efficient user facilities in Basic Energy Sciences, Nuclear physics, Fusion and High Energy Physics. I will also discuss the key role of surface science including nanostructure and materials properties that led to dramatic progress in superconducting accelerator technologies.
