Founded in 1992 by Artistic Director/Choreographer Ranee Ramaswamy, Ragamala Music and Dance Theater is dedicated to preserving the South Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam while using it as a springboard for innovative choreography. Ragamala's vibrant classical work and pioneering cross-cultural collaborations demonstrate to diverse audiences the versatility, depth, and contemporary vitality of Bharatanatyam.

Sva features live taiko drumming, in a collaboration with the Wadaiko Ensemble TOKARA of Nagano, Japan.

Sva is made possible in part by: the National Dance Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts (with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and additional funding provided by the Ford Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and MetLife Foundation); the Japan Foundation through the Performing Arts JAPAN program; the American Composers Forum with funds provided by the Jerome Foundation, the Jerome Foundation's support for choreographers; the National Endowment for the Arts; and the Minnesota State Arts Board.
