Resting into Truth: A Writing Workshop on Embracing the True Self Within the Natural World

Friday, May 10, 2024
11:30am to 1:00pm

In this workshop, we will use guided rest and writing practice to deepen our understanding of ourselves and our individual true nature, and process those inner truths through observations and connections with the outer, natural world. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. I invite you to bring an object from nature that fits in the palm of your hand. If you don't have one, that's alright. You'll be able to imagine it there. Bring a yoga mat and a blanket, or two blankets, a notebook, and a pen.

Boxed lunches will be provided with RSVP.

Note: This event will be capped at 30 participants.

About the Workshop Leader: Dr. Aomawa Shields—astronomer, astrobiologist, and the Clare Booth Luce Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Irvine—has forged a career that connects her interest and expertise in both science and the arts. As a writer, she has excelled both in writing about her research for experts in her field and in writing about her work and life for those outside of astronomy. The Hixon Writing Center is honored to welcome Dr. Shields to lead interested students, postdocs, and staff in a unique writing workshop that draws on both body and mind. We thank GPS for providing financial support for this event.
