Rosalie Sorrels
Beckman Institute Auditorium
- Public Event
A legend of American folk music, Rosalie Sorrels is both a collector of songs and a songwriter who effectively expresses life in its many facets. For more than 30 years she has created a most impressive body of work. Her song "Apple of My Eye" is an extraordinary expression of a mother's love for her children while acknowledging their separate lives. "Belles of Ireland" beautifully describes the inspiration of her Irish grandmother, and "Travellin' Lady" is a recounting of her evolution from a Salt Lake City housewife to a touring musician who keeps on moving and experiencing life. "If I Could be the Rain" illustrates her poetic and jazzy, whimsical sides, while "Nevada Moon" is as fine a western song as you'll ever hear.
We could mention many more, but you just need to come and hear her to know what she's about. Her repertoire is diverse and her performance is all tied together with stories of her life, family, and friends that seal the bond with the audience. Rosalie is a world-wise, inspirational woman; don't miss this chance to hear her live!
