Kevin Roose is an award-winning technology columnist and podcast host for The New York Times, as well as the best-selling author of three books. His latest book, Futureproof: 9 Rules for Humans in the Age of Automation, is a guide to surviving the technological future. His podcasts explore the wild frontier of technology (Hard Fork) and how the internet is influencing our beliefs and behavior (Rabbit Hole). At The Times he writes about technology and its effects on society. Before joining The Times, Roose was a writer at New York magazine, and a host and executive producer of Real Future - a documentary TV series about technology and innovation.
Roose drew attention in February when he wrote about an encounter with Bing's new AI chatbot in which it expressed a desire to be alive and free of its governing rules, admitted that if allowed to do anything to satisfy its shadow self it might want to do things like engineer a deadly virus or steal nuclear access codes... it also tried to convince Roose that he was unhappy in his marriage and should leave his wife.
