Unraveling the Martian Interior with Seismology Investigating Seismic Anisotropy on Mars
Caroline Beghein,
Professor of Geophysics,
Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences,
University of California Los Angeles,
The InSight mission successfully landed a seismometer on Mars in November 2018 and recorded over 1,300 seismic events over its lifetime. In this seminar, I will first give an overview of the main seismological results obtained, including mantle and core models, as well as constraints on the crustal structure and thickness under the lander. I will then discuss in more detail our findings of seismic anisotropy in the crust in multiple locations and possible interpretations.
