Margaret Vinci from the Office of Earthquake Programs will lead this tour of Caltech's Seismology Laboratory and Earthquake Media Center. Faculty members will join the group for a lecture, show their facilities, and answer any questions.

Caltech's Earthquake Media Center makes use of a supercomputing cluster of 1024 servers which enables earthquake simulations and findings to be projected onto a custom "visualization wall," translating complex earthquake data into 2-D graphics — an advance that helps the media report earthquake news in a timely, easy-to-understand manner.

Later, we'll enjoy a festive dinner in The Library of The Athenaeum, Caltech's members-only faculty club. The menu will include prime rib or salmon, with Berries Athenaeum for dessert.

Cost:  $65.00 per person for members at the Contributing Level and above. Members at the Participating Level may join the tour by upgrading to the Contributing Level. Cost includes tours and dinner.

Space is limited. Please make your reservation as soon as possible by calling the Friends of Beckman Auditorium Service Desk at (626)395-6400, or by sending email to [email protected]. Reservations and payment must be received by Monday, November 30th. Please note that there will be no refunds after this date.
