Spin Orbit Effects in Magnetic Systems
Qian Niu, Professor, Department of Physics, University of Science and Technology of China,

Electric and optical response in magnetic system is often characterized in terms of spin-magnetic order parameters, which depend critically on the relativistic spin-orbit coupling. A systematic and unified analysis of such responses can be provided by regarding the latter as a symmetry breaking term in an otherwise spin-group symmetric system.

We use anomalous Hall effect as an example to illustrate how such an approach can provide insight and understanding of a diverse set of phenomena in ferro and antiferro magnetic systems.
