Stargazing Lecture
On August 21st, 2017, a solar eclipse will be visible across the entire continental United States, the first time since 1979. This exciting event is not to be missed. Historically, solar eclipses were believed to be portents of doom or harbingers of miracles. While you have nothing to fear in 2017, the eclipse will certainly be an amazing experience. I'll explain why solar eclipses happen and what we can learn from them today. I'll also discuss how to ensure that you'll see this one and how long you'll have to wait for the next one.
About the Series
Stargazing Lectures are free lectures at a public level followed by guided stargazing with telescopes (weather permitting). All lectures are now held at Baxter Lecture Hall. No reservations are needed. Lectures are 30 minutes; stargazing lasts 90 minutes. Stay only as long as you want.
Stargazing is only possible with clear skies, but the lecture, slideshow, and Q&A takes place regardless of weather.
