Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen continue to be enduring favorites as their music just keeps getting better. Those of us who heard them at the Fret House, or one of their other concerts last year, know that they continue to write and gather great new songs and material. They have been working on a number of projects, including a great new album with Michael Smith and Anne Hills.

Cindy Mangsen has one of the most beautiful voices in folk music and Steve Gillette is certainly among the finest guitarists around. But their talents go far beyond this. Both are extremely talented songwriters, vocalists, and musicians who use their low-key charm and humor to blend together a diverse set of original and contemporary songs, with some traditional pieces as well. Gillette has long been a successful songwriter whose songs have been recorded by Linda Ronstadt, Kenny Rogers, Kathy Matea, Anne Murray, and many others. "Back on the Street Again" and "Darcy Farrow" are just a couple of his better-known songs. Mangsen, who plays guitar, concertina, and banjo, has developed into a fine songwriter herself in the recent years, as evidenced by her album, "Songlines." She has also recorded a number of fine albums with Priscilla Herdman and Anne Hills. This will be their sixth concert at Caltech. Their pattern is to come to Caltech every other year, a tradition we hope continues for many more years.
