New Capabilities and Emerging Technologies at the Protein Expression Center

This is a seminar given by Jost Vielmetter, head of the Caltech Protein Expression Center. A tour of the facility will follow the talk.

The PEC at Caltech has been know for its capability to express, purify and analyze proteins using classical biochemical methods such as PAGE and Western blots. The PEC also has more advanced capabilities to offer: The Biacore instruments and support at the PEC allow researchers to identify and characterize the specificity and affinity of bio-molecular interactions in general and of proteins in particular. Another new exciting technology is robotic liquid handling which allow researchers in collaboration with the PEC to carry out medium to high throughput cell-based and biochemical assays. The PEC is now able to develop and automate these assays.
