Yale Shades: with Caltech's Out of Context
Dabney Hall, Lounge
- Public Event
Shades, Yale's youngest a cappella group, was started in 1988 by a small group of Yale freshmen at a pre-orientation program for students of color, an event now known as Cultural Connections. The group's repertoire is rooted in music of the African Diaspora, a tradition that until the emergence of Shades had not established itself amongst Yale's a cappella community.
In addition to a lively local school outreach program, Shades tours to different parts of the world every winter and spring, giving them a chance to connect with audiences outside the New Haven area.
Caltech's own Out of Context will open for Shades. A free reception for all will follow the concert.
