Caltech Accreditation Process Update
Caltech seeks to re-affirm our accreditation by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). This process supports institutions in developing and sustaining effective educational programs while ensuring that an accredited institution has met high standards of quality and effectiveness.
Caltech's accreditation report, with accompanying documents, is due August 5, 2020 and a site visit will take place October 14-16, 2020. During the visit, town halls will be scheduled for faculty, students, and staff. Contingency planning for a virtual site visit, due to COVID-19, has also begun.
Our self-study focuses on two themes: 1) the Core Curriculum and 2) Academic and Co-Curricular Support Structures. Working groups for each theme have shared their preliminary findings with the faculty board, the six academic divisions, the board of trustees, the IAC, the Core Curriculum Steering Committee (CCSC), and the Committee for Undergraduate Education (CUE).
The learning outcomes, which are the measures by which we assess teaching in the Core, have been endorsed by the relevant committees. The objectives that our academic and co-curricular support structures aim to achieve have guided our assessment of them. Because community participation is crucial to the success of the accreditation process, you are invited to visit the Caltech Accreditation website to learn more about the accreditation process.
