Re: Caltech Face Covering Requirement Remains Unchanged
Yesterday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued updated guidance that indicates that fully vaccinated individuals may resume most pre-pandemic indoor and outdoor activities without the need to wear a face covering or practice physical distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
While we continue to review the CDC's new recommendations and to consult with local health authorities on the potential implications for Caltech, this change in federal guidance does not immediately change the Institute's practice or policies around the use of face coverings. Caltech's current policy, which follows the requirements put forth by local health authorities, mandates that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, wear a face covering in indoor settings—except when alone in a private office or space.
Until state and local authorities change their current safety standards and expectations for workplaces, Caltech's policy remains unchanged. We will update the community on any changes to our protocols or preventative health measures.
