Electric Charging Stations installed at Caltech
As part of Caltech's commitment to encourage alternative transportation and support electric-vehicle commuters, three Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations are now available on campus through the Chargepoint Network. Two charging stations have been installed in the South Wilson parking structure, and one in the Holliston parking structure. The fee for use of the stations for the Caltech community is $1.25 per hour, with a $1 minimum. The general public will be charged $2 per hour, with a $1 minimum. Charging time is limited to 4 hours. The Caltech Electric Vehicle Charging Stations are meant to be "top-off" locations (not a primary charging location), so the time limit will allow for turnover throughout the day. A valid parking permit is required to park while charging the vehicle. All chargers are part of the ChargePoint Network, so users must be a member of the ChargePoint program.
To register your vehicle, come by the parking office at 515 S. Wilson second floor, to get your "Charge Pass" card. Please bring your Caltech ID when you register in order to receive the discounted rate. The Charge Pass card can be used at any ChargePoint Networked Charging Station including the 350+ stations throughout California. The card must be activated before it can be used. Activation instructions are included in the ChargePass packet you will receive when you register. You can set SMS and email alerts from your ChargePass account to advise you when:
- Your vehicle is fully charged
- Plug-Out Detection
Your ChargePass account will collect all usage history for your public charging with:
- Start and End times
- Energy (kWh) used
- Greenhouse Gases Saved
- Occupied Time
- Location
