Re: Student Affairs Leadership
As the Caltech community continues to respond to a period of extraordinary change, student affairs leadership is also involved in internal transition processes. With Joe Shepherd's departure from the Vice President's office on September 15, I will be departing the Undergraduate Deans' Office and taking on the role of Vice President for Student Affairs.
We are preparing a search process for the next Dean of Undergraduate Students. In the meantime, Associate Dean Lesley Nye has graciously agreed to serve as Interim Dean of Undergraduate Students. Since her arrival at Caltech in the fall of 2011, Dean Nye has supervised the residential life group and acted as undergraduate accessibility coordinator, and she currently chairs our collaborative CARE team. Her many years of student affairs experience prepare her for this important role, and she will have the capable support of Associate Dean Kristin Weyman and the caring and experienced staff in the Undergraduate Deans' Office.
Caltech remains committed to supporting our undergraduate students through these particularly challenging times, and I take on the Vice President's role with a profound sense of that responsibility. I look forward to working with Dean Nye in her new role.
