SILA and the Gatekeepers of the Arctic Screening

Join us for a screening of SILA and the Gatekeepers of the Arctic, a documentary chronicling the impacts of a warming climate to indigenous populations in the Arctic. After the film screening, we will be joined by Corina Gamma, director and producer of the film, and Ian Fenty, climate scientist at JPL, for a discussion of the film and its implications.

Corina Gamma is a Swiss born filmmaker and multi-media artist, based in Los Angeles. She earned a Bachelors degree from UC Riverside and a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the Claremont Graduate University. Shortly after graduating she began pursuing her interest in documentary filmmaking and photography. Between 2009 and 2018, Corina Gamma traveled multiple times to Greenland. She spent many weeks at a time in Greenland's most northern villages and settlements to do research and to produce the documentary SILA and the Gatekeepers of the Arctic which gained several nominations and awards, including "Best Documentary" at the Berlin Independent Film Festival.

Dr. Ian Fenty received his Ph.D. in Climate Physics and Chemistry from MIT in 2010 and now works at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a climate scientist. In his research Dr. Fenty collaborates with JPL oceanographers, glaciologists, and others to reconstruct the circulation of Earth's high-latitude oceans over the past two and half decades. In addition, Dr. Fenty is a co-investigator of NASA's "Oceans Melting Greenland" mission.
