Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, has been elected to the Caltech Board of Trustees.
Bailey has served as president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production since 2010, overseeing all aspects of live-action development, film production, and physical production for Walt Disney Pictures, including recent releases such as Maleficent, Into the Woods, and Cinderella. He is also a member of the Sundance Institute Board of Trustees.
A 20-year industry veteran, Bailey has created, packaged, and developed film, television, and new media concepts for a variety of major studios and television networks.
Prior to his current role, Bailey produced Disney's TRON: Legacy, making the film in tandem with other media ranging from the Grammy-nominated soundtrack by Daft Punk to a multiplatform video game, and the television series TRON: Uprising. In 2008, he founded Idealogy, Inc., a production company with a focus on the evolution and future of creative content, including the development of high-quality stories that can live across media.
Bailey worked as a writer-producer with ABC Studios from 2004 to 2008, during which time he continued in his capacity as chairman and board member of LivePlanet, the integrated media firm he cofounded in 2000 with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Chris Moore. In his time with LivePlanet, he executive-produced the Emmy Award–nominated series Project Greenlight and cocreated the series Push, Nevada. His latest screenplay, S olace, cowritten with Ted Griffin, is slated for release later this year.
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of Caltech. The Board is led by David L. Lee (PhD '74), chair, and vice chair Ronald K. Linde (MS '62, PhD '64), and it is currently composed of 41 trustees, 21 senior trustees, 22 life members, and one honorary life member.
